My Fab Grill

My fab grill and me are setting records! We made it through our second cleaning in a row without being told that we had to come back for fillings, drillings, canalings, crownings or any other kind of not-so-fab grill work.

I think my dentist is a little worried about who's going to pay his bills now...

Second Empire

I had dinner at Second Empire Restaurant and Tavern last night. The home was originally built for Mayor William H. Dodd on a lot given to him by his parents in 1871 and opened in 1997 as a restaurant. We ate in the Tavern downstairs which was super cozy with all of the exposed brick.



I was rather surprised at how not-as-expensive-as-I-thought the Tavern was. It would be good place for a special occasion. It was more casual than what I expect the restaurant is. I don't know. I don't think I would like the restaurant. Servers staring at me while I eat. Reminds me of my mom's pomeranian.


I had the Roasted Tavern Filet Wellington (asparagus, wild mushroom duxelles & foie gras, puff pastry, creamy saffron risotto, shallot red wine sauce) and there wasn't a morsel left on my plate. And, for desert, the apple crisp.

So, for all you baby daddies out there, take note for when you need a special date idea.

Small Pickle If You Ask Me

For the first time in 20 years, poor planning has resulted in the UNC football and basketball teams playing at the same time on Saturday. At 3:30, we kick-off against the Terps in College Park followed by a 4:00 basketball game against I don't even know who.

Everyone's talking about the pickle UNC fans are in. Seriously? Hmm...am I gonna watch an important football game or an insignificant basketball game against - does anyone know who we're playing - that means nothing? Plus, there's always DVR.

Small pickle if you ask me.

OBX Half Marathon 2008

A bunch of the CYCers headed down to OBX for the second annual marathon trip. We had a great weekend of fun and fellowship capped off with six of us running the half marathon on Sunday.

The car ride to the race start was perhaps the most fun I have ever had at six a.m. We jammed out to some Beyonce, Citizen Cope and House of Pain to get us ready for the 13.1!

Keri and I had an awesome time running together! We had not talked to each other all week so that we could have 2.5 hours worth of known facts (we don't gossip) built up to share during the run. We were hoping we would meet some cute boys along the way but decided that we wanted our cute boys to run fast and therefore, would not meet said boys during the actual race.

We seperated on the bridge as Miss Keri was in super runner mode! We also saw Heather twice during the race. My girl Heather is 13 weeks pregnant, peed four times during the race and still beat me by seven minutes! She's my inspiration big time!

I would like to mention that Honky-tonk Ba-donk-a-donk was playing as I crossed the finish line.

OBX played up the pirate theme big time this year and it was so fun! Complete with live pirates (aka people who are a little too into the pirate thing) and runners dressed as pirates and treasure map medals! I might have to start working on my running pirate costume for next year!

Even the queen was impressed...

Go Shorty. It's Your Birthday. We're Gonna Party...

Angela, Kara and I all have October birthdays! Last year we held the inaugral birthday extravaganza celebration with a rowdy night of Moe's and roller skating. This year, it was a corn maize!

Some were overly eager about purchasing their ticket and getting started in the maize.


Before we entered the maize, our "guide" provided us with instructions to get us ready for the maize. She was an older country lady. I think Keri and I were the only ones who could understand her. I mean, what's so hard about "when yer gits down rit der yous comes back to dis here spot from rit der."

She also told us the maize would take 1.5 hours. Not so much....


The ever resourceful Keri came up with the great idea to play sardines in the corn maize. Totally normal for a bunch of 20 somethings to be playing sardines in a corn maize.

In true Ashely form, I'm picking up men everywhere I go. I'll have to add him to my "I once dated a guy..." stories. I once dated a guy who was dead with really thin legs and wore some pretty sexy overalls.

After wearing ourselves out with the overwhelming corn maize, we headed to Logan's for dinner.

Don't Get Crazy

You're probably going crazy from my lack of posting, but I'm back and better than ever! So much has been going on! Let's start where we left off, shall we?

Halloween. Perhaps my favorite holiday as I'm a sucker for costume parties. This year I went as Miss Bon Qui Qui. Putting together my costume was a lot of fun and I have to give a special shout out to my friend Darrell (pronounced Da-rail but spelled like Darrell) for his help with my nametag and King Burger patch! I was amazed at the number of people who aren't aware of who Bon Qui Qui is. In case you aren't, watch this and love it!

I seriously have to go one year! Man, I love being a Tar Heel!

We spent Saturday in the Happy Chappy cheering on the light blue and catching up with friends at He's Not. Such a wonderful day!

Just in case you weren't aware... (Part Two)

...I hate ticketmaster.com.

I've yet to file a formal complaint. I really should get on that.

But, I did get to Bladenboro bright and early Saturday morning. I did log on at 10:00. I did secure my Phish tickets. I did click "Purchase Tickets (Your credit card will be charged)" within the five minute time period. I did all this to receive a blank error page. I did click back because there was no other option. I did try again. I did receive a "no tickets available" message.

I DID NOT get Phish tickets.

It's Not What You Think

You probably think I'm getting ready to shout exaltations about how happy I am that gas prices have gone down! Wrong.

What I want to tell you about is what you cannot see. This is a crappy camera phone picture and the light behind the sign caused the letters to not show up in the photo.

It says "Now serving livers and gizzards".

I've got 74 bullets, 2 wagon wheels, four oxen and three good friends in tow. I think we'll succeed as long as we don't die of dysentery or lose our provisions and drown trying to ford the river.

Who You Calling Healthy?

My friend Carolyn accused me of being healthy today and to prove to her that she was wrong, I listed the items that I have eaten over the past two days (as of 4:45 pm Monday).

Yesterday, I ingested the following:
-one entrée of sweet and sour chicken from Pei Wei
-one handful of BBQ potato chips
-one regular Italian Ice (mango)
-one Smithfield’s BBQ sandwich
-one 20 oz sweet tea
-one bowl of Fruit-O’s (bobo Fruit Loops)

Today, I have ingested the following:
-one sausage, egg and cheese croissant from Burger King
-one 12 oz Pepsi Cola
-three oatmeal butterscotch cookies
-one piece of a Hershey’s chocolate nugget
-two cupcakes
-half a bruegger’s sesame chicken salad

I am super ashamed of myself.

On second thought...

...Maybe I'll get some Wellie's instead.
